I found that sometimes you need not be a great chef to produce great food. Presentation, colors and how you present the whole thing makes a normal bun looks like a french croissant (hopefully it will tastes like one). I'm not a great cook but sometimes, to impress my dates, I have to come out with some clever ideas. This page will show you some of the recipes I have used. Trust me, you do not need to be an expert to use any of these recipes, but still will be able to impress anyone (hopefully your date or the prospective in-laws).
